"I became a chiropractor, because I was first a chiropractic patient. When I was 21 years old I was a passenger involved in car accident which was struck by a tractor trailer. Three of us climbed out of the car which was on its side in a ravine. We felt lucky to be alive. Not one scratch, or so we thought. Two years later, I was teaching in an elementary school and my classroom was on the third floor. I found that I couldn't climb the stairs without pulling myself up by the railing. I couldn't stand or sit very long. I made the rounds of the usual treatments and began exercising."
"I found that I couldn't run very far without back fatigue. There was not much pain, but I thought it was unusual for someone my age not to be able to do these things. I found a chiropractor, a woman about my age. She gave me a thorough exam and took some x-rays of my spine and showed me why I was having so many problems. My mid-back spine was bent. Scoliosis. Part of her exam included a history of injuries. I had told her of the accident. She actually attributed my problems to that accident and a fall down a flight of stairs that I had when I was 7 years old. She told me this was one reason I could have needed glasses when I was 10 years old. She felt my back weakness could also be from the car accident."
